Archive of Many Places

 ongoing project | mixed media

In the artwork, Kirsten Johannsen concentrates on scenic regions and their atmospheric appearance. Since 2022 she travels across various landscapes while using unique tools and strategies to identify the sensory characteristics of a chosen place. She hereby draws inspiration from scientific instruments from the eighteenth century. The historical devices are fascinating because they were used to poetically negotiate questions about the representability of the new and the unknown. The artist summarises and presents the results of her investigations in the »Archive of Many Places«.

The archive is an ongoing project. It is unlimited in terms of time and place.
